A Study in Scarlet

First post of year 2015. 2014 was great indeed and I can arguably say one of the most happy and memorable year of my life. I had good health, lots of fun outings with friends, gained more confidence at work, also managed to stay healthy and fit. The best part however was birth of my nephew Sparsh, the next generation is here. Suddenly you feel more responsible.

I also saw lots and lots of movies in multiplex last year. Something I plan to cut on this year. I started working on the same end of last year. I started and finished the sci-fi series ‘Firefly’(rather than watching all released movies in multiplex).  It had only one season, too bad they did not release more, as it was wonderful indeed!! I would read the book surely. Speaking of which, currently I am reading 'Sherlock Holmes' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

To be frank I am not as voracious a reader as I am a writer. Writing comes natural to me, I read only something that keeps me interested. The list is placed towards bottom right section in this blog itself. I had just seen the couple released Sherlock Holmes movies before. After finishing ‘Firefly’ I decided to finally start watching the long pending Sherlock series. I finished 2 episodes of season 1 and immediately decided to get the book. I ordered it from Amazon and have finished 5 chapters of the first long story ‘A Study in Scarlet’.

This story is the first by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This is the story where Dr. Watson meets Sherlock Holmes. The way in which Sherlock does his investigation and his theory and practice of ‘Science of Deduction’ is captivating. I will not disclose further details of the story but implicitly and may be inadvertently the author has also portrayed why does a person commits crime and he has portrayed it magnificently!!

I can say the novel has kept me interested and absorbed indeed. I have completed reading just around 100 pages of volume one, and am glad that there are 1000 more to come. I will also order the second volume from Amazon later, this would surely be a great collectible in my book collection..
