A Tribute to Sourav Ganguly.

Sourav Ganguly is one of the top cricketers of our time and an unsung hero of sorts too! He is among many others like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh to name a few, who have happily served the country under the shadow of The God, Sachin Tendulkar. Ganguly may not have a heap of records under his belt, but his aggressive nature and his support for bringing in youngsters of the likes of Dhoni and Yuvraj to the team has worked wonders for India.
India won the recently concluded cricket world cup. Whole country in deep gratitude for Yuvraj's performance, Dhoni's captaincy and dedicating the cup victory to Sachin Tendulkar. No mention of Ganguly anywhere, he is indeed the forgotten hero of Indian cricket.
India was the number one test team in 2010. Now India is also closing the gap on Australia to be the numero-uno team in ODIs too. Australia as expected did not even manage to reach the world cup finals this time around. A team without great match winners lie Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, Steve Waugh and Hayden looks a lot different now. The next generation is no match to them. However there are still some good players including Punter, Mike Hussey and Puppy Clarke.
Coming back to Ganguly. How can anyone forget the Natwest series win in England. Final match of the 7 match series and Ganguly removing his shirt and waving it in commemoration. Also it was under Ganguly's captaincy that India started winning test matches abroad, including places like Australia and on pitches like Perth. I remember that test series down under. Ganguly himself scored a ton in the first test to secure a draw. Dravid was in the form of his life, India did very well in that series.
Not only his captainy, his batting is sublime and there is no questioning that fact. In his prime, he was considered God in West Bengal and is still known as dada by all his fans and lovers. He is a player who has one of the best timings in the cricket world, may be even better than Sachin. He has hit many many towering sixes. The moment of him.... coming down the track to spinners and hitting those biggies will never be forgotten. Also, Geoff boycott would often say while Ganguly is batting, "On off side, first there is God and than there is Sourav: The Prince of Kolkata. "
Finally, I would like to summarize some if the key moments of his fantastic career and his remarkable achievements:
  • Ganguly made his Test debut against England at Lords and scored a superb 131. However not many people know that he followed up with a 136 in the next test match, his second test.
  • Second batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the 10k runs mark in ODIs.
  • Ganguly was appointed the Captain of the Indian cricket team in February, 2000.
  • Ganguly was the Man of the Series in the New Zealand-India 5 match ODI series in November 1999.
  • Ganguly made a mammoth 183 against Sri Lanka in World Cup 1999, which, at that time, was the Highest ODI Score by an Indian, beating Kapil Dev's Record of 175*.
  • Ganguly was the Man of the Series in the Pepsi Cup 1999 (March-April) for scoring 278 runs and taking 6 wickets in total.
  • Saurav Ganguly has the distinction of being one of the few players in the World to Score a century and take 4 wickets in the same match. (ODIs)
  • Saurav Ganguly along with Tendulkar forms the 4th Best Opening Pair in the History of One-day cricket.
  • Saurav Ganguly and Tendulkar were involved in a World Record Opening Partnership of 252.
  • Saurav Ganguly was named Sport star Person of the Year 1998. He also won the Arjuna Award in 1998.
  • Saurav Ganguly was the Highest Run-Scorer for India in ODIs in 1997.
  • In the Sahara Cup 1997, Saurav Ganguly set a new World Record for 5 consecutive Man of the Match Awards. He was also the Man of the Series.

Having played very well for KKR in IPL in intitial seasons, he was not selected by KKR in 2011. Many people ignored IPL for that and there is a FB group on it too. Finally, Pune team got him in. Today is his match against KKR and it is gonna be interesting...watch out KKR fans.

My First Android App on the way!

First things first, the title says "on the way" and it is on the way and not yet arrived! :P This is something in my mind since long long time,to develop an android application. I did download Eclipse long back, but the exe was corrupted. After that I got busy with other things and somehow the android app slipped out.

Well today I downloaded another Eclipse exe and it worked fine. Hooked it up with the r11 android sdk installer for Windows. Some archived versions of the SDK like the 2.2, 2.3 along with the current 3.1. Currently playing with the Android 2.2, API Level 8. The 3.1 is the latest available version, however 3.0 onwards have been designed specifically for tablets and the avd for that is very very resource hungry, so sticking to froyo for now.
Tested a few demo apps and works fine in the avd. Now its time to make one of my own. I am thinking of either a utility app or a quote kinda app, where you get various inspiring quotes. I was also thinking of a sticky notes or a Hangman game for android devices when the idea of android development came to my mind first. However, there are already loads and loads of similar application available in the Android market.

May be I will ponder a couple of days more on what to build. Most probably I will build something simple to start with and than get innovative successively. Development, especially of a complete application is not that simple and I hope I will be able to make something good. Hopefully one of my next post will be titled: My First Android App Released! :-)

If you are interested in Android development too, if you wanna learn or if you wanna join me, feel free to contact me.

Untitled Part-2 The Logic is Undeniable:When Mr. K meets a Prime!

Link to Untitled Part 1: http://cartikvyas.blogspot.in/2011/03/untitled-part-1-invention-of-time-trek.html

Untitled Part 2

Star-date  105. Yes it's been over hundred years. Star-date is defined as the beginning of a new time since time travel was discovered. It is all elaborated,  the journey of a legend, the biggest discovery or the biggest invention, say as you please. If something changes the 'time keeping' method of a species, something which leads to travelling across solar systems and galaxies, something as humongous as warp speed ...yes mankind has come a long way indeed!
Warp speed is there, time travel is also there, but what about direction? The universe spans across a diameter of over 150 billion light years, and that's just considering one universe, or rather the 'existence' of one single universe. What is there outside of it? Is there anything there outside or it's just all indefinite infinity? May be we are too young to answer these question! The collaboration with the Vulcans was indeed a giant leap in the stride of humans. Will they be able to find some other species which is even more advanced? Are they present in some other Universe?
They say planets are round, but universe is flat! How can this be possible? A huge chunk of material which exist in the universe is not visible, neither to the Vulcans! Six flavors of quarks: up, down, bottom, up, strange and charm. Six types of leptons: electron, electron neutrino, muon, muon neutrino, tau, tau neutrino.Twelve gauge bosons (force carriers): the photon of electromagnetism, the three W and Z bosons of the weak force, and the eight gluons of the strong force. May be the secret lies in future discovery of more subatomic particles.

So coming back to the legend of Mr. K. With great powers come great responsibilities. Inventions are time bound, greatness is forever. The search is on for advanced civilization to further demystify the universe. Super Solitary waves, which simply imply traversifcation of solitary waves are being used for this purpose. 5 galaxies being done and documented. Off-course habitat friendly planets are discovered and colonies have been established, still getting satisfied is not Mr. K's cup of tea. Universe is the limit now... and it shall be overcome. The logic is undeniable!
Large Magellanic Cloud. Named after Ferdinand Magellan, it is the fourth largest galaxy in the Local Group, and forms a pair with the SMC, and from recent research, may not be part of the Milky Way system of satellites at all. A signal has been received in response to the Super Solitary Wave. The symbols are completely different and are not at all familiar. Quantum computers forming a grid trying to decipher this ultra super encipherment.  Mr. K has no answers this time and then suddenly he recollects... Around 500 years back a similar message was received , however ignored as useless radiations from one of the supernova, the assumption seems incorrect now! The legend of the primes, the legend of Cybertonian Milky way, the ultimate mystery of a super species was about to get resolved!
Was Large Magellanic Cloud Cybertonian? This time they had the direction, they had the destination. Mr. K decided to go for it. With his able, damn mighty almighty able team of super specialists and space scavengers, off they went. Ms. B, Mr. V1 and Mr. V2. Along with Mr. K only three other superhumans had the title of space scavengers, they were the best and history has the legend!
After time wrapping for a distance of 2 billion light years, which was around 2 years in actual, not considering the wrap speed, a similar message was received as a response to a second Super Solitary Wave and this time the message was deciphered. Yes it was the language of the Primes, it was Cybertronian. The time had come for Mr. K to meet Optimus Prime. Yes, the logic was undeniable!
